Bicycle history: La Michaudine in 1861

In France, Pierre Michaux and his son Ernest came up with the idea of fitting pedal cranks to the front wheel hub in 1861.

A simple but essential invention was born: the pedal on the front wheel.

At a certain speed, the pedaling cadence became very fast, so to overcome this drawback they increased the diameter of the front wheel, which now measured up to 1 m in diameter.
